Hello all,

I have a 1979 4/4 with a standard 1600 cross flow. The thread in the oil drain has gone and won't tighten. I have 3 options under consideration, 1) Re-tap the hole and insert a larger bolt, 2) A temporary fix using a Dorman 65201 AutoGrade Oil Drain Plug 3) Buy a replacement sump.

On the last option, I understand there were 2 rear bowl sumps. Can any one tell me which one I should be looking for and what the differences are. Conveniently, Beaulieu Sprint Auto Jumble is on next week end. Any help gratefully received.

I have a '76 version and can take a picture tomorrow if that helps or a quick call to Burton Power (no connection) will yield the answer quickly.

I noticed the other day they now stock magnetic drain plugs too.

Any competent auto-engineer will re-tap it with a larger bolt. I had mine done years ago.

Don't go down the liquid weld repair. To risky with the thought of a total oil loss.
