Has anyone here ownership experience of the new Mini Cooper? We are thinking of dumping the BMW buss for something more fun to drive.

Yep...we bought one for the missus, it was one of the first Cooper 'S' (2002) and only done 25,000.. It is FUN!! Not sure I like the later oversized ones though, they have lost their way a bit. 'Had' to take it on a 4hr round trip to visit Williams last week and had forgotten what fun it is.

Head Office has a Mini Cooper S as one of her cars and you are welcome to borrow it for a day or so, if that helps you make up your mind? It's a great little car (well actually not that little any more!) and we both really enjoy driving it ... I'm sure you won't be disappointed if you buy one.

Are you talking petrol or diesel Peter? I had a Cooper 1.6d clubman as my dog carrier. It was well built and fun to drive.

My Head Office had. 52 plate Cooper with Chilli pack from new & only sold it last year. Was a great car and like a go-cart to drive. However, choose your wheels carefully as lower profile ones that came with the chilli pack made it a bone shaker. Don't know what the latest versions are like but something to be mindful of.

My son has a clubman diesel estate with about 80k on the clock still very tight and a quality feel for a small car,we changed all the run flats and now rides much better as well..

Petrol 3 door, the new 3 cylinder 1500cc motor has a lot of very positive reviews in the Cooper form. The hatch is needed to allow the Finance director to carry horse stuff... (no the Porsche was never a serious option!) As a 2+2 or 2+ luggage it looks perfectly viable.

Yes, the 16" wheels or 17" with adjustable suspension (only £375) seem, from the magazines, to be the way to go. VERY careful & controlled use of the options list also seems essential, but the way that "package" features means that some you can't have without others...!!
