That's a shame, however, not much you can do about the weather... umbrella

Oh now that is disappointing especially as May is traditionally one of the better months for the west of Scotland.

Combined with the poor hotel experience it is a double whammy likely to put anyone off a repeat visit.

Very unlucky but I hope you put your feet up and enjoyed the quiet comfort of your own home...and maybe a dram or two! coffee

I was involved a couple of years ago in finding a hotel for a group visiting Scotland in Morgan's. The brief was to find somewhere on Skye, just about every report and customer feedback I read complained and/or quoted very high prices. I turned the brief round and found a very welcoming and fair (very) priced hotel in Fort Augustus. We visited Skye on a drive out for the day and it was like visiting a different country. Everyone else we met on the holiday were warm and welcoming folk, but on Skye without exception I felt we were not wanted and even trying to buy lunch there was much tutting and cheek blowing (in a hotel advertising lunch!) the service was terrible, the food very poor and the prices a rip off. As a coach pulled up you could hear the staff groan and start complaining.....will personally not bother again, I visited 20 years ago on a motorbike and 13 years ago in a Morgan and experienced very much the same attitude, shall not bother again. Crazy as the first stop back in the mainland for coffee the lady greeted us with a warm smile and 'what lovely cars' comment....and excellent coffee and cake ;-).

Why not come down to Northumberland I doubt you could get a hotel like that all the ones we use give you a belly ache plate of food no matter what time of day. Scenery is stunning more castles per mile than any other place and the mog is safe.

And a jolly good job you did too, Colin, or we would never have discovered the Inchnacardon Lodge - this has got to be one of my favourite hotels, endearingly shabby without being squalid, great food, and great ambiance.

Only a month or so to go and we'll be back up there!

Agree with you about Skye, though. I shan't rush to go back, especially when the Applecross peninsula is beckoning!

Last time I stayed on Skye was around five years ago and stayed on the outskirts of Portree at a very quaint family run pile called Viewfield. The Alvis club were staying there as well so a wonderful array of cars parked outside. We were very nicely asked if we minded parking our motorbikes around the side!

Disappointing. We went 4 years ago and ended up in Skye with friends, each in a Motorhome in May. The weather was shocking, rain was horizontal all hours of the day & night & so it didn't do it justice for us.

We were so fed up we booked a night in the Loch Lomond Lodge Hotel to dry out& battle the hurricane winds on the way home!
