Probably the wrong place to ask But I still prefers the opinions of intelligent members on here...

My son is currently studying 5 A levels, and is expected to get all 5 A/A*, he wanted to study economic, his choice of unis are Oxford, Cambridge and London school of economics.

What's the massive opinion on which one to go for, and why?

I would suggest you g on open days to all three. They are all good & really it depends on his impressions.

Cambridge is also a great day out if you like touring old buildings & not paying the tourist fee given you are on an open day.

The one he likes best after visiting all three, reading the prospectuses etc I think the thing to remember is that the name doesn't always mean its a good course. I the end a visit and a chat with the faculty staff will give the best idea.

I quite agree that open days are invaluable. My son went to Queens College Oxford and greatly enjoyed it - others find the tutorial based system hard to cope with.
All three choices are of course excellent!

i recently had to decide myself which university to go to. i was also interested in applying to oxbridge. i wasn't at all interested in going to LSE because of its situation. For some people the idea of living and studying in london is great...for me it just wasnt the right choice. Often the london uni's offer only 1st year accomodation and then you need to find yourself somewhere to live elsewhere (in london..not exactly cheap as chips) and as its not a campus, you lose a little of the community feel. it just depends what it more appealing to you.

as for oxford and cambridge..well. i was looking to study maths at oxbridge and noticed that cambridge offered a course based more on the pure side of mathematics whilst oxford's had a little more variation and so i opted for oxford, but each to his own.

i would say that whichever of the uni's he decides on, the standard of teaching, subject facilities and the depth of the course will all be very similar and so i would suggest going to open days at each of the uni's to get a real feel for them. thats the only way you can really tell if you're going to enjoy spending the next 3/4 years there.

I may have the most recent information as my first choice was Oxford (as my brother is there now in his final year St.Annes College doing Material Sciences with Chemistry). I studied Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Design at A-Level. Didnt get grades for Oxford so enjoying Loughborough University in my first year.
Prefer campus uni as ones you have stated aren't really.

I went to Oxford. Wasted my time there but even after all these years I cant but regard it as an enormous priveledge. You really do get a tremendous start in life and even if you dont make use of it (as I didnt) its there for the taking.

I wouldnt pretend that Oxford is any better than Cambridge or even the LSE. My impression is that Cambridge is more for the academics (and being a spy of course), Oxford for politics / big company linkage ( my college alone has provided 13 prime ministers. From my years there - several ministers), the LSE has to be the best for economics.

Oxford or Cambridge are the experience of a lifetime.
