Because I am an idiot and overtightened the rocker. Or put the curved rocker gi in guide in the wrong way around my car broke down. The rocker bolt has snapped.
Fortunately it was a clean snap and was while I was stationary. (Outside the ashmoleon) anyway, what is the prognosis.
1) a new head assembly £1k 2) a delay for a repaired head assembly by sns. £500 3) someone mearby will be able to fit a new bolt. £250
I guess I am asking if these bolts can be replaced without having to changed the whole head section??,
I am pretty sure now that I can just get new studs.
I think I will get the roller rocker upgrades while im at it. Maybe that will be a bit quieter?
I have to say, It is amazing how breakages are contained with these engines. in any other engine, a loose bolt, washer and rocker would spell disaster. But not here. I am extremely lucky.
Same goes for the consequence of an all too familiar belt breakage.
Im less keen on the RAC 3 hour response time to oxford. Its hardly the middle of nowhere. There are a few drunk tourists to chat to. Why people dont go to bed is beyond me.
I tried to push the car up the road. Aftr half a mile the police stopped me because I had no hi vis jacket On. So I put on my french holiday outfit gendarme proof jacket whereupon I was told it still wouldnt do. Still waiting.
When you wake up today, have a chat with Dave Barringer at Northants V-Twin in Northampton. Independent H-D & old school engineering style garage. 01604 588006.
Worth a chat if nothing else, plus his brother runs a 4/4 & he covets my M3W..!!
I checked the belt and heads on the roadside outside the ashmoleon. The RAC sent a lorry from Bristol to me in Oxford so as to move me 1.7 miles up the road.
