Different sub-subject:

Does the +4 and the 4/4 (2011 production, 1600 Sigma engine) have the same gearbox?
My 4/4 misses lots of power to use the higher gears in a sporty way.
I did some 3000km last two weeks and drove some great Alpine roads including the Col de la Bonnette and the Passo Stelvio. I would have preferred a different selection of gears (and better weather conditions).

The answer is yes they do. I had the same problem with my 2010 4/4 Sport. 5th gear was not very useable. I changed my differential for the Competition 4.11:1 version which made a significant difference.

John. Do you remember what the standard ratio is? What sort of costs are involved in a swap? And did you re-calibrate the speedo?

Peter, the standard ratio was 3.73:1. I paid Mike Duncan around £1,000 for the job as far as I can remember. Ben Duncan calculated the adjusted speedo code for me. It was fairly accurate but I ended up tweaking it until it was nearly spot on.

Would it be possible to swap the gearbox of a 2011 4/4 and replace it with the Mazda box which is assembled on the later 4/4s? One could benefit of the more reasonable gear ratios. And, would it cost more tha changing the diff if considering a used Mazda gearbox?
