Don't forget to take all your documents relating to the car- driving licence, insurance, registration etc. You also need hi-viz jackets/waistcoats for both occupants, warning triangle, spare bulbs- I don't think breathalysers are still required in France. Radar detectors are illegal in France. Have a good trip!

Watch the speed limits in Switzerland.

I have bitten the bullet and replaced my 195/60R15 tyres for 195/65R15s on my Plus 4, in an attempt to improve the ground clearance. Hoping to increase ground clearance by at least a half inch.
My worries were:-
1. the bigger tyre not fitting in the spare wheel hole.
It does with a tiny bit a wiggle room.
2. The bigger tyre not fitting in the rear wheel mudguard.
Still plenty of room
3. Speedo less accurate.
If anything the speedo is more accurate when measured against SAT NAV.
More measuring to do.

I have yet to measure the ground clearance, I will do that later this evening.

I have noticed that the bigger tyres give a more filled in look to the car, which I like.

Pretty much what I worked out and some others have tried. I will probably go that way when I replace the tyres. What brand and type of tyres did you fit?

The /65 is an indication of the percentage of sidewall height by comparison to the width of the tyre. That means that the sidewall will be 5% of the width, 195mm in this case, higher than a /60 tyre. In other words it should be 9.75mm (or a tad over 3/8") higher than a standard tyre of the same make.

It may not seem like much but given that the older standard for speed humps was 9cm plus a possible 1cm, now reduced to 8cm plus a possible 1cm, it makes the difference between scraping over and not touching.

By the way the minimum ground clearance midway between the front and rear axles for homologation in many countries is 10cm.

Hi Peter, credit to you for this as I have been watching your posts on this for probably 3 years.
I had intended to change the tyres at the beginning of next year when the tyres would have been 4.5 years old. However just this weekend I had the bottom scrape over a sleeping policeman, so I decided to do it now rather than wait until next year.
At the weekend I used a 4inch diameter coffee tin to identify the low points under the Morgan. There were 3 points which were up to a half inch lower. The gear box, and two at the gearbox cross members. I can get the 4 inch tin under these points with the new tyres. I am very happy with the result,
I will look out for you at Thrill on the Hill so you can have a look for yourself.

Peter, I forgot to say that I have bought Dunlop Sport BluResponse tyres, as in the 15 inch size they have been getting good ratings.
