That's what I love about TM, there is such a tremendous depth of knowledge, especially for guys who like to get their hands dirty. I learn something new from here everyday. Thanks for broadening my knowledge Philip.

Thanks Philip for the great picturess. Does this assembly come as a kit? And how much in NZ$, Euros etc. I know the engine comes out but any other specialists stuff for the conversion?

Mine similarly. At light throttle between 2000 & 3000 revs I also get a "rattle" or maybe more exactly a light banging.

That's my centra under build in my new car last week. I can't take the credit. Kindly taken by a TM'er for me.

Having lived with both compensators, I have to say that I much prefer the Centra unit. The old one would pop and snap on occasion and I drove the car in manner to protect the compensator rather then just enjoying the drive. I still don't run much below 2,800 rpms in any gear but that's out of habit rather than protection. I believe the dealer in Scottsdale, Az quoted about $1,100 usd for the centra kit and up to six hours of shop time. My car was already disassembled for a frame replaced so I dodged most of the shop time.

My September 2012 build has a compensator that may either need just a lube or...?

I get a high pitched rattle and ratcheting when the car has very little or no stress on the drive-line. Never under acceleration or engine braking, just coasting.

I gather from the previous posts that this is one of the original units and not the Centa. I don't even know if it has a zirk fitting on it to re-lube it!

I admit that I have been very vocal in saying that lugging this engine is a big no-no and I also live by those words. I have well over 17,000 miles on the car and aside from eating rear sprockets it has performed like a trouper.

Any thoughts as to which compensator is in this and just what is it that I am listening to?

What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

Great photos - Shows exactly what we have inside the Centa compensator and what's really interesting is being able to see the internal web and roller arrangement. - I'm still running on the original on a 2012 car and will do a bit longer - having said that I do try to drive the car in order to protect the compensator.
Cheers guys
