Well I waited in all morning for autoglass to come and repair the three windscreen chips ! Now I'm told I need a new screen. Autoglass have now gone away to lay in a darkened room as they have no idea where to get a screen from ! The strange thing is they made the last screen ( it's got their logo embossed in the glass)
Makes you wonder sometimes !

It will still pass its MOT if you remove the screen and wipers and pop on aero screens . No idea if it will pass without aero screens. Just in case you have a problem with a date for an MOT test before you get hold of a new screen .

I think that the only source is Morgan, at a price! Even the manufacturer of the screen is unwilling to sell replacements retail. The screen for my 1600 Sport was £960 from memory and that was several years ago when the Sports were suffering a rash of unexplained screen cracks.

If it is an unheated one a proper screen company the like of which replaces farm machinery and JCB's will tailor a laminated screen for you at very low cost.

When I was suffering a rash of 3 screen failures on the 2009 Sport someone from NI came up with this tried and tested method and for a lot less than a £100.

Or you could try uncle Melvyn for £85.

It will be interesting to see where they find one.

Yes, it is (or was) possible to get a car MOT'd without a screen, Steve Simmonds did exaclty that with mine when he had it to make a new hood. He managed to break the screen somehow, and whilst waiting for a replacement (not heated, so not desperately expensive) the MOT ran out, so he got it MOT'd without a screen. The tester simply wrote "Windscreen not fitted" in the comments box.

Steve any auto glass firm can cut and fit you a new windscreen, [if not heated]for less than 100 pound. Cymru glass near Carmathen did one for a friend.

Check the Gomog site.
I THINK there is a bit about this in there. If not then I read it elsewhere.
The route was to get a glazier to cut a screen from flat bus window glass, getting possibly 2 screens from a single window.
At least one would have the markings for safety/regulation, etc.
OK for non heated screens but not heated.
For kitcars many Lotus 7 types get taken for their IVA test without a windscreen to eliminate issues over demisting requirements. Retro fitting often then takes place, as with Morgan wing lights.

You can get a new glass cut from a number of sources - Autoglass even have a division that specialises in this. Trouble is they will want your old screen as a template. (www.autoglassspecials.co.uk)
