Amazing perhaps this is the elusive car that howard seeks.

I bet that's a bit of a mother to handle - but fun when you encounter the Spridget knockers they would be a little surprised in a straight drag race.

Looks lol to the usual DaveW standard we have come to expect and appreciate! Beautiful car if not as brightly coloured as we now know! Hard to see if neoprene featured in this restoration?

No neoprene was used, except as a door edge protector on the garage wall. I was a neoprene apprentice at that time. If only I'd had a digital camera . All photos were taken on film so nowhere near as many as I should have taken.

Dont mean to be harsh but 43bhp and 80 mph when new! Definitely a sunny day back roads trundle to the pub rather than a blast down the M1!

None taken. I do have chum who restores XK's but I think I'll just settle for conventional A series mods.

Many people put in Rover K series engines and Ford type 9, 5 speed gearbox's. Mostly in later cars but there are a few converted Frogeyes.

Around 160bhp to 180bhp is available without going mad on cost but the half shafts tend to break.

My thoughts tend to be yes improve the A series a bit to get some more power but rather than spend £10k at Frontline Developments to update the car, just accept it is a Sprite and that an MX5 is the sensible way to go for a modern drop top and cheaper.

Hi Eddie, I am more than happy to accept the Sprite with all its charm, which is why I want to restore it. Sprites were subject to upgrades from the day they left the factory to help performance and braking which is the route I intend to take, as well as converting to right-hand drive. I've owned a Mk 2 MX5 and it was fabulous but soulless. Thank you for your comments. Phil
