I'd had a problem for a while with the clutch operating road slipping the clutch lever. Inspection determined that the collar on the road had worn to the extent that any slack in the system could allow it to part company with the lever.



The lever was thankfully OK and not too worn.



The spares section at the factory are nice guys but they hadn't got a Scooby when I enquired about a replacement rod. It was so much better when they were over the road and an old guy would disappear into a recess somewhere and come with exactly what you were after and charge you 25p. Applying a little thought to the job I bought some 6mm threaded rod from Wickes, a clevis linkage off that eBay, added a few nuts out the garage, and came up with this:



The collared nut makes the whole thing a stack easier to adjust.



Time for a test drive.

Looks good - would you need two nuts on the second from the clevis pin to stop it moving or have you used loctite?

Woodstock used to have such a clutch and at 40000 miles, was quite worn at the pivots, but ok at the lever joint. I drilled all the pivot points out to the next size of clevis pin (plenty of metal) and just with occasional oiling, was still looking good at 100000 miles when I sold the car.

So from my experience, perhaps no-one had oiled it at all. A little bit of looking after and a lever clutch should do a great many miles.

added, I think the clevis pin end is threaded, so adding one nut as per-photo enables one to lock nut a shaft into a fixed position.

That's right, the clevis linkage is threaded so only one nut's required to lock it. Mine's done well over 100,000 so hopefully this will last me, but I had so much stuff left over I spent 10 minutes and knocked a spare up.

Looking more carefully I see a second nut in the install that was not shown on the "component" photo against the flange (?) nut.

This could be why my clutch started to rattle a bit on holiday.

Might have a spare one of those TMG if you need one following my gearbox swap

That's very kind of you. I've ordered a clutch kit from Burtonpower so I'll see what comes with that.
