It may well be me and my technique but is there an easy way of undoing the 'Lift The Dot' fasteners? Some seem to open easily on my (cloth) hood and then there are the real b******s that will not budge. On occasion I have had to resort to carefully levering them. This does not somehow seem to be what I am supposed to be doing. Any advice on ways of getting them to undo in a manner that looks half elegant and doesn't involve red face, sweat, swearing and a screwdriver?

I think you're being too harsh on yourself; your current method does sound rather elegant!

Having never had this problem, I cannot speak from experience; however, I wonder if lubricating them with something like WD40 would help?

Perhaps someone else can recommend a solution?

I used to suffer the same problem on a small cabin cruiser years ago...

Using the Pivot "Lifters" from John Taylor http://www.morganhoods.co.uk/default.htm

means that the force needed to "lift the dots" is much less. No connection etc just a satisfied customer etc

It is very important to lift on the side marked with a dot and not on any other side, hence the name, "Lift the dot".

Serious advise.

If possible pull the fastener in the diection of the dot, then lift.

I alway had a couple which were difficult.

Is it the ones on the hood?
What age car do you have and type of hood?

All good advise is already given. Here is a not so good one: If everything else fails, you can loosen the tension of the spring wire inside the fastener with a small screwdriver - with the risk that it will be to loose after some time. It happened to me but fitting a new fastener was no problem at all.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I do 'lift the dot' but find the ones in the middle of the windscreen particularly difficult and unyielding. I have tried WD 40 and Vaseline (please no comments) but with little success. The Mog is a 2002 4/4. I am away at present but will try some of the suggestions when I get back.

I wasn't quite sure about how the swivel pivots worked. Do you fit/remove the hood with the frame down so there is less tension?

Maybe speaking nicely to the hood will help too!!! My language when it is difficult to undo may be scaring it.
