Not sure I quite agree..although not care is perhaps better expressed as "not interested".
The Ford position is "we sold you an engine that meets the published specification". That it wasn't optimal for the customer's application was not, in their view, their problem.
I can understand, they are a US public company without any sentiment. BMW is a family owned and controlled business. They can afford to be indulgent. Would Ford have agreed to re-homologat a stock of unused Euro 5 motors? I doubt it.
Anyway, at least Morgan has developed, with your help, a re-map.

"I understand CM was not the CEO that time so who actually is responsible???
He may not have been the CEO, but I think he still wielded tremendous influence on management decisions. Quite handy really, because he can just walk away from the bad decisions and take the credit for good ones. Of course it can always work exactly the opposite way. It's very easy, and almost traditional, that the new powers take credit for all that is good and blames all wrongs on the "fallen" one. Not saying that this has happened, never read anything "on the record" from the February 2013 onwards management about Charles Morgans' decisions. And I don't have personal access to the "off the record" stuff that sometimes transpires, so I can't tell rumour from fact.

All I did was test the new ECU in my roadster and feedback findings, and then retest.
I suspect BMW and any other manufacturer would take the same position as Ford if they had an engine that was not to be developed by themselves any further. Unless they were paid for the development and were able to support it, or they had some financial interest in the other manufacturer. Unfortunately unless there is a development partnership between a supplier and an end manufacturer then the manufacturer may be in the buy as it is position. I think this is held out by some of the other Ford ECU engine issues in the past in other models not just the Roadster.
I am not supporting Ford in this matter, or MMC just giving my thoughts on what I suspect happened.

You pay your 50k for a roadster to Morgan the same as your 35k for the three wheeler they should sort it,i suggest some of us re read some of the three wheeler section to see what costs some of those guys have had to put up with.Lets forget Bmw and Mercedes would you put up with it if you drove a hyundai dacia or kia,I think not.Lets also remember that 50k is a lifes savings to an awfull lot of people.(where did i put my rose tints).

I don't quite agree with you re the other manufacturers and how they deal with issues
There is a well known BMW diesel engine that is know to fail and have been avoiding dealing with it properly as I understand it.
Land Rover had many problems with its Freelander rear axle in various guises and believe they still are and are still not admitting there is or were any problems. (Why we ditched ours before the 3 year warranty expired) We will never have another LR, having had 5 in the past.
Fiat is another example of manufacturer who has and still is having issues with cars and not necessarily dealing with them.
I could go on but won't. I am sure there are many other examples out their. Once again I am not condoning this by manufacturers just stating it is how I see it is.

Re mapping the Roadster. If a reputable engine mapper has the appropriate software then fine tuning can be done. There are excellent people out there. OK at a price...... Duratec engines are being remapped by many such tuners to produce some excellent results. Morgan have their in- house people but why not deal with these specialists? Collaboration would yield some good results. Omex are already involved as an example? The volume of Roadsters likely to be produced will not be big so unit cost for work done would be higher than for higher volume cars. A balancing act to contend with. If the Cyclone engine had known issues then surely MMC would be aware of these and pursued it from the outset? There appears to have been a mindset to build prematurely, probably to generate cashflow, remembering the post crash slow recovery of the economy. At least MMC have survived. I hope lessons have been learned re shortfall in development and building in quality and resilience.

Thanks Em, I effectively agree, I actually do not think it matters whether it's a 5k or 500k car, poor design and serious failures should not be tolerated, in fact in a lower price car which will be sold in high volumes the exposure for serious or dangerous failings is greater and it is ever more important that issues are dealt with in a correct manner.
MMC are a low volume and medium to high cost manufacturer, there obviously have had issues for various reasons, I personally believe that they try to address them appropriately, or as best they can. Whether that sits well with us as customers or not is up to individuals to decide.

I'm not a fan of BMW, but when my work colleague had his 330d eat itself from the inside, what could have been a bill for £11,500 was only about £3000. BMW accepted that he had a full service history, so made a goodwill payment of the balance. That was impressive, but I don't think they admit there's a problem with the design.
