Bmw wouldent agree with you Neilda but i do exactly the same as you every 5k.Even so i still have the famous vanos rattle on start up just for a second or two like most x5 and aero owners,I have also never topped up the oil between services and the oil comes out quite golden.

Em I only have 2,500 on my engine so far, but everything I've read about this engine suggests that oil quality is paramount to a long engine life. An oil change is not that expensive and for a quality engine (which this is) it can only do good. I have no rattles on mine, the engine is virtually silent. Interesting thread here on a rattle which turned out be something else... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing//topic.asp?h=0&f=72&t=841163&mid=0&nmt=Vanos+beginning+to+rattle+-+what+are+my+options%3F

Em You need to trade something in. House, family members? You have to get one.

I very nearly bought the early red demo car,it went back to the factory for fettling and looked like new. That blue plus 8 with stratstones ticks all the boxes and i hate to say it but i prefer the plus 8 to the new Aero.I drove Peters car on a demo day Quite sedateley (Thrashed it)and just loved it and the auto box.I will probably be proved wrong but I think on paper our suspension set up is best for pure driveability we will have to wait and see.

Em As far as I know the only person here who has driven the old and new Aero tub is Aeroman.... So Brian, compare and contrast please!

At the pumps Peter my standard reply is,no its not a kit car its a Morgan originally designed for raceing it has a trick suspension set up.No wood any where near the chasis it does about 26 mpg. That normally does the trick, Chris Lawrences dna is all over our cars its a shame to loose some of it but i know time moves on.

Em The other one at the pumps or in Waitrose carpark is "it us just over a year old"...that normally confuses them totally. Agree, 26 mpg is spot on....more importantly is range is about 300 miles. Yes, it is essentially a Chris Lawrence designed chassis and I'm very glad to have it, even if the rose joints can clatter a bit when cold! Peter

I love the natural feel to the suspension. Despite Nick saying the latest Aero will feel more connected on a quick drive I rather like the supple limbed approach.

Mogs are excentric, indulgent and just that bit different. Chris Lawrence never took the obvious route and might be considered to be a bit excentric, so I suppose the Aero tub is the sum of a number of different approaches to automotice engineering. For sure it wasn't the cheap way!
Anyway I'm keeping mine, it talks to me and I enjoy driving it just because I can. The last car I felt this way about was a 1991 Mercedes 190E 2.6 AMG, bought in 1994 and sold in 2011, something I still wonder if it was a good decision.
