Just after replacing the shock absorber brackets, a knacking noise was discovered when
polishing the front wings.

The bracket between the front suspension and the light on top of the wing, had sheared at the suspension. It is a fatigue break as the two pieces matched perfectly, and there were no signs of deformation.

Luckily my friend lives on a very small farm with access to a welding apparatus.
It took us one hour of grinding, welding, grinding and filing to put it back in one piece.

I wonder when the other side wil break? The car's done 50'miles by now.

It have had two of these brackets break. I now carry a spare. It beats me why they can't be made stronger.

I have replaced both side on my Plus8.
Both cracked near lower end in same place.
I used a temporary bolt on extra bracket as a fix until replacements came.
kept the bracket " just in case".

I had a nearside stay crack in the same place and refitted it as Gomog suggested.
It makes sense as the amount of movement in wing, chassis and bracket has to take the strain somewhere.
Put a washer between the wing and bracket and contour the bracket should solve the problem.
My 1959 Morgan stay was too stiff and the top of the wing around the sidelight fractured.
Many early Morgans have plates welded in this area so movement on the top of the bracket is far better.

Probably would benefit from tempering after shaping?
