Decided to try another grease in the kin pins Red n Tacky . Write ups look favourable, slightly more expensive than LM or Molygrease but may be worth it.

I have been finding that the black molymodium grease needs doing after less miles although better ride than LM. So today I sat at each front wing and pumped away at the top nipple first until Moore black stuff came out and then the bottom the same. Effectively until I only had red grease oosing out.

I will measure the success or not based on ride and mileage before I feel the need to reach for the gun again. I am hoping that the tacky aspect and its reported properties and reported excellent properties in lubricating sliding bearings will bear out in the result.

I will post my thoughts. I have a few short trips to do this week and over a 400 mile weekend trip to Aberystwyth and back via a wedding near Cardiff on Sunday, so suspension should get a good work out.

I use "blue and tacky" by Morris from my local farm store.

http://www.morrislubricants.co.uk/products/source/greases/k323-premium-blue-grease-12-5kgs.html

It is very like the grease we used on Ship's steering stocks.

Also only £3.02p per cartridge, not £6.50p

If you measure its performance by the feel of need are you not risking wear? ie if you notice a performance/property drop then isn't it already to late?

What sort of distance are you noticing issues with the normal LM? and what are these things you are noticing?

Are you on the Factory or HC king pins?

I've often wondered whether sticky chain saw oil might work in the top section, which really would be better with oil, not grease?

Hi Mark, unfortunately factory pins fitted by Williams when they took the car as a demonstrator, mwhy they fitted them I am not sure, but possibly allowed them to claim under warranty. Anyway, since having I notice as soon as the car reaches 500-600miles after a grease up then stiffness can be felt, even with the electric power steering. I have experienced this before with my a plus 8 once I replaced the pins in that with hardened chrome and the better bushes things were less susceptible to stiffening up. I do intend to replace the pins with HC ones Asap, but I intend to do some other bits at the same time, and this needs to wait a little for the dosh. Having rebuilt all the suspension on my plus 8 I am very familiar with all its idiosyncrancies, just trying out a grease that may be better overall.

Today's drive with it was good, nice feel, if anything I would say it may have a slight damping effect on the suspension, probably as it is thicker than Moly and Lm, and it is certainly sticky. So we shal see.

3000miles and first time at the nipples today. Better than not greasing at all I think...

I do mine every 1000 normally and just had a full service up at New Elms probably not need another splurge for a while but may do it early when it rolls over 9000. So that it's easy to remember when it's due.
