I notice that the paintwork inside the spare wheel housing is flaking off in places and the whole thing could probably do with a repaint. Any recommendations on what to use? Many thanks

Thank you for this. However it's the wood panels behind spare wheel that are flaking. There appears to be some form of black paint like you would find on outdoor fencing? Is there a special type of paint I need for repaint I g these panels. Regards. G

Mine appears to be covered in the same protective coating as the underside of the car, probably Waxoyl or similar?

If it's MMC underseal and black, it's likely to be Dinitrol 4941. Example here: http://www.rust.co.uk/dinitrol-4941-under-body-wax/p405024/
