At what point did the headlights with the larger bezel and upright position in the picture above change to the slanted headlights with the smaller bezel?

No change during production timeline at all, just the difference between US and European type of headlights.

The above picture was made before purchasing her in California. Here you see the diffenece of headlights during our change.

So she looks now.

Same procedure with the Tangerine, not the nicest pic of her at the moment but without the 1973 big front bumpers and with Europeam lights, all is reversible.

Heinz I a, sure your '85 model is a special car but for me the '73 in tangerine is perfection. May not be the fastest on the road but I'm sure the fun factor makes up for that. Reminds me a lot of the simplicity of the 4/4.

Thank you Heinz I should have guessed it was due to American legislation.

Roger and John,
thanks for your thoughts. that's the point. The Tangerine really is a beauty and makes a lot of fun to cruise. I will share some more pics with her immaculate interior. The black 1985 is a driving devil and a sound monster as well. But I never would keep both of them, too many cars.

Not liking those US spec headlights - makes it look dopey.

Can't say I've noticed it before on other US Porsches - was it a specific state requirement rather then a federal law?

It was federal law.

Only very few US Porsches already changed to the European style, like on the black 1985 Targa in the pic. I also don't like the shape of the US lights on Porsches at all. Another story regarding my wifes 1976 450sl. There I like the Merc US double beamer much more than the German rectangle headlights.

I do not want to overload the thread with pics, so who likes, here is a link to pics of the 1973 Tangerine. The end silencer is meanwhile replaced with a nice stainless one.

Nice car Heinz which has obviously had a significant amount of work done on it. That's the one I would keep as an occasional use car. If you wanted to use a car more regularly I would choose the later car myself.
