The best revenge story.
A very rich Woodworking machine shop owner was doing his shop floor walk with his manager one day ( by the way he is an ex robber jail bird) when he noticed some carved graffiti on the head of the machine, closer inspection revealed it was the nick name of one of the young operators.
The M.S.O summonsed his manager to the window of his upper floor office and asked was the operator an owner of a vehicle in the car park, the manager duly pointing to a glowing restored VW Beetle, the M.S.O calmly went to the Car Park and walked around the car with a sharp object.
On finding out who keyed his car the Kid stormed upto the office demanding an explanation and siting costs to refurb the paint work, the M.S.O had the simple answer ready and waiting.
YOU REPAINT MY MACHINE SON AND I WILL REPAINT YOUR CAR, NOW GET OUT OF MY FECKING OFFICE

The damage reflects changes to society and it will not change in a long, long time.
You cannot change attitudes by punishment, only by education. We have a broken education system.

Keying was for sure a problem in the 80s
These "things" seem to become popular/the trend then mercifully fade away.
I parked my first Morgan Plus 8 in a car park in Canterbury in the 80's and when I came back someone had thrown a large tin of cream gloss paint all over the interior! Words failed me, but luckily the insurance company paid for it to be reupholstered at the factory.

After Brian's experience with paint and discussions of wanton vandalism, I was avoiding this thread as being too depressing I remember being parked up outside a hotel in Liverpool to come down and find our 3 company cars had been sprayed with silver paint - a vandal had run along spraying a line along the back of the cars. This was a probem for the black VW Golf and the blue Ford Focus - less of a problem for the silver Vauxhall Vectra!
