So....is blacktop full fat and silver topped semi skimmed.....or vice versa?  It took me a while to get that I was about to post 'eh?'

A few years ago I visited Chas Windridge of Mogsport fame to get some AVO shocks for my +4 T16, and he suggested that to get much better breathing I should remove the restrictor plate that's spot-welded about half way along the internal pipe of the silencer. (This plate has an approx 1/2inch hole in it, so reducing the effective diameter of the exhaust pipe considerably).
The method he suggested sounded rather brutal – knock seven bells out of it with a long, hefty steel bar – but I tried it, and it worked! It's made a big difference, too. The engine is much more willing to rev, and the exhaust note has a bit more of a burble. And all this for zero cost!
Makes you wonder just what a 'sports' silencer is, though...?

No Stewart, the Zetec has a left side exhaust and the Duratec a right side exhaust. My "Blacktop" Zetec is as Stewart describes and the exhaust runs along the driver's side. Very odd, I had a Blacktop in my Caterham, before changing it for a 2.3 Duratec, with the exhaust on the offside, and that had the exhaust down the nearside, the Bl**dy hole is still there in the aluminium side panel.

Indeed "very odd" words also used by Tim Ayres when he was having a good look at my 4/4. Though, apparently, the exhaust layout is the normal for Morgan black top Zetecs The exhaust manifold on my car is on the nearside, but the exhaust is then routed under the engine, through the offside chassis rail and then proceeds along under the offside running board. Remind me to show you when we next meet up. It might also be described as standard Morgan factory engineering?

Left hand exhaust manifold feeding to a drivers side exhaust is indeed how the Blacktops were built. The following link to Librands shows pictures of my previous car after the standard manifold and cat were replaced. My 2010 example had a straight through silencer,,,no baffles. The Roadster originals on Nero were baffled.......baffling!

Very odd indeed, I cant see the advantage of routing the exhaust under the engine to exit on the off side. Surely it would have been simpler (cheaper) to route it out of the near side?
