Hi, I'm old school and always turn off all electrical items when leaving my house for long periods (holidays etc), how reliable are the battery conditioners and would you recommend leaving them on for long periods, I do not know too much about them but believe they turn themselves off when the battery is fully charged therefore safe to leave on for long periods?
Thanks

What is the conditioner you have - and how old is it?

I use fairly new conditioners and regard them as being entirely safe - they trickle charge the battery and, assuming the battery is in good condition, use very little power.

I would not leave a 'fast charger' (for example) connected up for long - but a modern conditioner is fine in my view. I have a car in my barn that's been happily sipping the juice for over a month. smile

I turn my conditioner off when we're away . Although it stops charging when the battery is full it remains live. It makes no sense to turn it off like this because it might equally cause trouble while I'm at work or in bed. There was a case a while ago where a dehumidifier burnt out and although it didn't burn the garage down it covered the car in black soot and ash and ruined the paint. So I turn as much as possible off when we're away. Paranoid? Moi?

Thanks for all the information, I have a BANNER conditioner, it's only a couple of years old, the majority of people seem to turn them off whilst they are away, I think I'll do the same.
When I had the Aero 8 I could just isolate the electrics with a switch when I was away and just trickle charge to keep it topped up ready for use, I don't want to go down disconnecting the battery route as it lives near the rear axle and takes some getting to!
