This whole issue is avoided in Australia where the month and year of manufacture is on the compliance plate. This plate is usually fastened to a permanent part of the cars structure (difficult with a trad Mog ) and yes, it does make a difference to re-sale value. New cars manufactured in a previous year are usually discounted.

Below is an example of one of the new "self-voiding" compliance lables that are being introduced to avoid vehicle cloning or re-birthing of stolen vehicles. As you can see the date of manufacture is 02/08 (ie. February 2008)
