A friend of mine has bought several cars from the USA and I'm always surprised how little the shipping costs him. He just has to arrange to collect the vehicles from the docks (usually Southampton or Liverpool). I'm a bit confused when learning about shipping costs of a small M3W. A classic Porsche costs 1.400 USD from Oakland to Rotterdam these days.

Shipping from the East Coast of the US, e.g. New York, Washington DC, Baltimore, Jacksonville, etc. is a lot cheaper than from the West Coast of the US, e.g. Oakland, San Francisco, Los Angeles. The West Coast departure requires a trip through the Panama Canal, which costs.

Come on Wiscos, chin up.... Even the more positive stories in this thread are pretty horrifying. Really sorry for you... I simply now hardly drive my M3W - the fear of imminent failure or expensive hassle is overtaking the few moments of joy. And the cost per mile is getting close to Lamborghini territory!!
I worry for my Oct 2012 chassis, and many other issues but my car has been fairly reliable compared with many!
Hopefully solutions and sense will start to prevail but it doesn't seem so. I fear for what the future will hold! Now - cheer up! Stock markets have just collapsed faster than M3W values so perhaps the money is better spent than we all thought!!!

Buying the M3W was never a rational cost based decision for me. Me Want. sums it up. 1 H-D Rectifier, 3 sprockets and now the Super Max refurb, "comfort kit", B-box whine and listening to the bucket of bolts called the compensator, with a shattered cam belt. I'm just shy of 20,000 miles and I drive this puppy hard! Third set of fronts and by this winter the second rear will be toast.
My last fiasco was cracking the exhaust header, ripping it off to get it welded, put it back and drive some more.
Most work was done under warranty, the rest I have done.
All this to drive like a maniac, blow by traffic like it's standing still, having women and children scream in the cross walks gives me a warm glow...
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

this doesn't seem to make sense. Your lovely Redline video is what I sent out to my friends to inform them what I was about to buy. It was such a refreshing change to see a video where the car was being driven so gently as opposed to all the doughnuts and tyre screeching on most of the other reviews.
Seems there is another side to your driving technique or are you having us on?

Seems there is another side to your driving technique or are you having us on? Mapman, I was in no way responsible for the editing or content of the video. David Rose took what he wanted out of it. We were in a public park for this and the authorities in charge frown heavily on hoonish displays. I live in rural Vermont. There are days where the road is empty and I "own" it and there are days where there are simply too many "flatlanders" who are visiting this scenic paradise and totally lost where, if I drove like I feel like doing, someone would get hurt. When I take friends for rides I give them one of two options; I will drive like you are my sainted grandmother or I will drive like you're not here at all. This is slightly deceptive as one of my grandmothers was a little old lady from Pasadena who liked fast cars and large block V-8's! Blown Pontiac Firebirds and an Olds Cutlass 442 come to mind... Impromptu races and threading traffic like a well greased needle can be fun and this is, after all, why I bought the damn thing!
