... on the brink of buying a new Morgan, so technically an imposter here.

Love the idea of a Morgan but am worried that the eccentricities and foibles will prove too much for me. Heart says Morgan, head says stick to what I know, the romantic in me would love to go touring with a suitcase strapped to the back, and wife says 'you only live once'

Anyone taken the plunge and had any regrets?

I'm coming up on 2 years with my first Morgan (M3W) and although it can occasionally frustrate and the banter on the forums can make them sound like to worst cars in the world - in the end every time I drive it I have a huge grin and the world seems a better place.

If you take the plunge you'll find a wealth of help, advice and friendship - which is priceless.

And, at the end of the day if you don't get on you should be able to resell without too much of a loss.

Go on - it's only money and you can't take it with you

I know it's a cliché ( but that's why they are true ) "You only regret the things in life that you didn't do"
My first memory of a Morgan was at the tender age of 17 and I thought they were brilliant ( around £800.00 I think ) I finally bought my first at the tender age of 60 and I have had 3 now. They bring so many smiles per mile that your face aches. Sure, they leak a bit but it's only water and they bump steer a bit but you can have so much fun within the speed limits they should be supplied on the NHS.
Do have a trial road test, I can't imagine you wont want one but do go to a "proper" Morgan dealer, they will listen and advise you on the correct car for your needs.
Finally, you have already taken the first important step by coming onto this site. It is full of real expertise and you will get very honest opinions from everyone.
Just go for it !!!

Touring with a (waterproof) case on the back is bliss.

You clothes will stay drier than you, that's the charm.

MrsW loves it as much as I do.

Welcome Dave T....I have had my new all black 4/4 since Nov last year and have already done 9000 miles.

I have always had Porsche and having sold my 1960 Porsche 356 I looked at the market...10 years ago I would not have considered Morgan but after a factory visit and having seen the craftmanship and materials used in the 4/4 build I took the plunge without even a test drive!!!
The buying process was very special and I visited the build of "my" car 7 times during the 26 day build. How many other cpmpanies give you that access to watch the process.

I made friends with the staff (in fact I am calling in tomorrow for lunch at the works canteen)

In the 9000 miles I do not miss my Porches...45 to the gallon,noisy and roof always off...maximum fun. Nothing has fallen off...classic looks with modern underpinnings..people still ask how old is it and can't believe it is nearly new.

I used it all through winter and had some great drives...you will remember the first time you drive roof off in the rain,in the snow and at night.

Unlike my 356 I am not afraid to use it and drive it like it is stolen!!!!

Definitely visit a good dealer - in North Wiltshire you're not that far from Williams - and have a test drive in something. They are certainly different to drive from a normal tintop eurobox, but not _that_ different.

As others have said, you can't help but smile when driving one, and it's the only car I've ever driven that has raised a smile in other road users too. Everyone loves Morgans, even if they think we're a bit mad. Truth is, of course, that we are the sane ones!

Best thing of all about them is that depreciation is pretty negligible, so you can easily persuade yourself that the money is better off there than sat in a bank earning 0.00025% interest whilst inflation is running at 2%

I am fortunate enough to to live fairly close to a well known Morgan Dealership and I have a high level of confidence that I will be looked after if I buy a car from them.

The one thing that strikes me is how friendly Morgan owners seem to be - it does seem as though you get a new hobby, social life, and vacation possibilities included in the cost of the car. This is definately part of the appeal for me.

I am hoping to have a test drive on Saturday with Mrs T and make a final decision then
