Another vote for a Duratec engined +4. Light and small enough to be nimble.
Easy to maintain as lots of space around the engine.
Great economy , and enough potential for some further tuning.

Having said that I love the look of the Aeromax, but the aerodynamics are all wrong for me.

I would also really like an early +8 (but with the later stainless bulkhead and valences) a Quad Downdraught set up , no cats, but a R380 box and a Quaife LSD in a BTR axle to take the power.

Maybe because a Morgan bonnet has got loads of holes in it, letting all sorts of road spray into the engine compartment? Or because they are built by people, who make mistakes? Ford Foci are built by robots, and they are always built correctly.

But you're right, really. There's no reason why Morgan electronics should be any less reliable than any other car.

Stretching the £35k budget there a bit, Andy!

I think this is the ultimate solution. An older Morgan is what I wanted and I have it. It is a hobby car, a car to drive when you feel like driving, as different from going somewhere. It is immensely satisfying, smile inducing and need not be a slouch in the performance stakes. It will be taken on rallies, romantic weekends and longer tours where time is some abstract issue. And I will fuss and worry every time it gets wet and lose sleep over that corrosion between aluminium wing and steel body.

On the other hand we all have to drive to places we don't want to visit and in so doing endure boredom and frustration from our modern cars. So a modern Morgan, if partner/family/circumstances allow, is the obvious partner to the above mentioned older mog.

Having said this, if all your budget can stretch to is one Morgan, my choice would be to make it an older one. History, character, the driving challenge, the Morgan community. I should shut up now.

If i were to buy again i might well consider an old Plus 8, a great engine and a car small enough to really enjoy it in.

A little rant on MMC and their shoddy products:
Our new Plus 4 of 3 years now has had numerous issues - none are Duratec or gbox related btw. My reference points are a Lotus Elise that's one year older, a 25 yr old 150k+ Eunos that's thrashed every month on track and a '74 Beetle. It might be heresy around here, but MMC are turning out tat. My experience seems quite in line with other new owners too. A real shame, as the whole Morgan driving experience is a joy. Should have got a TVR... (do i get banned now?)

No , but it would be useful to a newish Plus 4 owner to know what the issues were??

I am with you Steve, we can all learn from contributors issues, especially when we get to know the resolution.

Exactly, which is why I will be getting an aluminium radiator supplied and fitted by Williams in September.
