After a lot of effort it is now free. Thanks for all the help. What an excellent forum this is! I shall now follow your advice, Frank...

Be careful the pins have a bend on them so they go into the hole vertically so always rotate 360 deg.

Also make sure the latches that lock the pins in place are greased so that they slide properly.

Be careful with the grease. Too much and it will transfer to the tonneau cover and anything else that comes into contact with it, such as your new suede leather jacket

When you mention picking it up from Toulouse I wonder if you had dealings with Marcassus Sport?

Be careful the pins have a bend on them so they go into the hole vertically so always rotate 360 deg. Yes ours had to be adjusted before we even left the factory. Worth mentioning that the hood to windscreen clips should be pulled down (they may need adjusting too) before the rear frame is firmly pushed down with two hands to lock it in place. This means that you don't put too much force on what is a relatively fragile component. The side tenax fasteners must always be the first thing released and the last to fasten. If you have sun visors you may need to take them off and carefully grind away and file the tabs to be close to the screws. They are too long and can foul the movement of the front hood clips.

These handles are stiff - I felt worried I might break mine when using it but I was being over cautious. Have you tried giving a stronger pull on the lever - it's tougher than you would think and it has to be forced past the resistance to undo it. I broke my handle this way. The solution was a new hood wire and a reconstructed hood lock mechanism with a longer lever arm (following Archimedes: "Give me whereon to stand, and I will move the world"). Now I release the hood with one finger. There is a saying "a new Morgan is not a finished car, but a good starting point." Harald

Yes I had the same problem and pulled the handle out of the side of the car ! ALWAYS press down on the rear of the hood before pulling the handle.
