Could anybody tell me what speed my 2015 M3W should be travelling at in 5th gear if the rev counter reads 2000 rpm. I'm suspecting a faulty rev counter as I am apparently doing 80mph. Also the ECU appears to be limiting my revs to just under 3000 rpm. I rang my dealer last week and arranged to take it in to have the ECU setting checked, but it's pointing to a faulty rev counter. Was wondering whether anybody else has experienced this?

My Speedo ran 5mph over the actual speed.
I would have thought that on what is just over tick over you are v unlikely to be doing 80. More like 45/50 max.

From memory I think the ecu has a built limiter until a run in period or mileage has been completed

The speedometer and rev counter signals are both processed through the ECU. Suspect indications combined with revs being limited to 3000 rpm points to an ECU problem, I would guess.

I had a faulty Rev counter on my Plus 4 which wouldn't go above 1500rpm. It was impressive on the Motorway though!

Last weekend I noticed that speedo indicated 10 km/h too high systematcally. In my 2009 Roadster I typically use rev counter for speed, when in 5th gear. When I stopped speedo indicated 10 km/h. Switched off contact and restarted. This solved the offset. All kind of different Mogs seem to have rev and speedo idiosyncracies. Kind Regards, Bert

The speedo/tach are all running from/through the ECU. Digital stuff occasionally loses its mind and a simple power off/on can do wonders!
At least it's not Lucas!
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

Sounds like it's only showing half the rpm as though it's only picking up one cylinder's input... So may not be the rev-counter, may be the sender or pickup that's faulty.

I thought the speedo and tach were just for show anyway?
