It's not an official factory car but built by the suppliers of the transmissions to Morgan. I understand from those who've driven it that it is great to drive with a snappy gear change. I saw it a few weeks ago and was impressed with the installation. It uses a slightly modified chassis and the wider 3.7 Roadster gearbox cover. Whilst that means a slightly tighter footwell, the lack of a clutch pedal does leave room for the left foot.
Whilst I really don't want anything other than a manual gearbox in a Trad, it does broaden the appeal and it'll be interesting to see how many Vitesse sell. Looking at their advert they are selling a number at around £49k.

What about a sequential gearbox option ? That would be most welcome and they are already fitted to some caterhams with duratecs . Ah yes, now that I might go for. When looking into putting a 5 speed in my old '76 car, I did think sequential might be a good option... No doubt a far sweeter shift than the Ford MT75 in my current 4/4. Graham , how do we get the factory to take this up as an option , would Jays be able to help ?

If an automatic Morgan enabled me to keep my driving pleasure of them alive due to past cartilage injuries to my left knee I would welcome the model although I agree with Martin in principle. Pure Sports car = Manual.
p.s. The marketing aside it's a good thing to be able to allow access to the experience we all love so much to others that physically have no other option than an automatic. Our post lady has no left arm below the elbow loves the whole Morgan thing and keeps and rides her own ponies..Drives an automatic Golf with assisting control on the steering wheel.

As far as I can see the factory will accomodate reasonable special orders if asked nicely. For a customer order for a sequential gearbox the factory may even be keen to try it out if someone else is paying for it. One of these should go straight in as a direct replacement for the Mazda box: https://shop.quaife.co.uk/catalogsearch/...odel=416&q=Personally I would choose the helical gears for reasons of noise. Straight cut gears tend to be noisy.

Can someone tell me what speeds are available in the gears on a Roadster please? I think there are three sets of ratios for the 3.0 Roadster. We've talked about it before a long time ago. The S1 (Getrag)has a 1:1 5th gear with a 3.07 diff. The S2 had an overdrive 5th (Ford) - about 0.89 is typical, with a 3.7 diff as far as I can remember without looking it up. The S3 may have changed again. The S2 is slightly higher geared in top than the S1. I find the S1 very slightly undergeared on the Motorway - a 6th speed at 0.85 would be fantastic! Intermediate ratios I would have to look up...... From Morganatica for the 3 l S1 Mph/1000 rpm (top gear) : 23.67 Mph at 2500 ft/min, piston speed (theoretical) : 113.6 Final drive ratio : 3.08 Overall gearing in top gear : 3.06:1 Indirect ratios: 1st gear : 4.23 2nd gear : 2.52 3rd gear : 1.67 4th gear : 1.22 5th gear : 1 Reverse : 3.51 Clutch : single dry plate Rear axle : Tubular live axle with hypoid gears and limited slip.

And I haven't drive a tintop with a manual gearbox for over thirty years.
The whole point of the last of the British sports cars is that it's a manual!

But some people can't drive a manual through illness or they never learned. For me if it brings them into Morgans it is a good thing & I suspect in the UK at least it is a niche market.
