If you have time to look down you're not going fast enough.
That's my rule of thumb.

20 mph per 1000rpm in fifth 1000rpm in fifth....... must be a great shaking bag. How long does it take till the thing disintegrates?

Think your right, can't read either if I remain in normal driving position, tried re-positioning the steering wheel upside down still can't see the rev counter.

I have a similar problem to Taffys with a Series 1 Aero, mileage reading displays only at random times and often flickers.

I have a similar problem to Taffys with a Series 1 Aero, mileage reading displays only at random times and often flickers. Just to add to my earlier point above, having spoken to Brian Miller today, he said that it is fixable on both the Aero S1 and trads using those VDO units. The unit has to removed and sent away for repair and the memory of mileage is not lost. Sounds encouraging to what seems a common problem from cars of that era.
