My 2 cent on this, it is a good and plausible offer.
It should be considered that most of us are beyond 25y. Of course I like to play with the gears, it's part of the experience. But.....Back in 2013, in October I had a serious disc surgery although I never suffered back pain before at all (but this week before surgery was the hell on earth...). My left foot was mostly paralysed. After the surgery I had to train the left foot/leg during long weeks of rehab, before I could even press the clutch pedal of the Mog. Now the foot is strong again, only having lost a bit of sensors. This was a lucky result but it was not sure it went so well.
Therefore, I feel empathy for the chance to get an automatic gearbox and empathy as well for the drivers who get the fun this route they couldn't enjoy at all if anyhow handicapped. Tomorrow it could be you or me who would opt for an Auto.

About time in my opion - if this had been avaialable as an option when I had my last car built (2014) I would have taken it - manual changes still available but the ease of an automatic when in traffic are hard to beat in my opinion. I would have welcolmed the auto in my recent 3K trip to Italy via the Passes Have you ever thought of one of these?

Why not offer an auto as an OPTION? It allows drivers of different styles, needs to be able to drive a Morgan. Stop-start conditions become easier on tired legs. Would I have one? No......not yet....... Would I have a new style paddle shift ? Yes. Is there room in a non Aero Plus8 for these gearboxes ? Is there room to move the gearbox to the rear? Big changes needed there though! There is undoubtedly scope to do such things provided a supplier/partner comes on board. How small can a gearbox be made? Lots of technical hurdles to clear for radical development. Kitcars can have bike engines with their sequential boxes fitted, with reverse motorsadded as extras. Has anyone fitted a bike engine in a Morgan? Hyabusa/Blackbird etc are popular kitcar choices. OK...rev management is different but some may like it. Food for discussion.......

Have you ever thought of one of these? Ah! The rubber band and cones machine. Effectively what the Multitronic gearbox is in my Audi - uses a multilink metal chain instead. Peculiar at first - like negative clutch slip - speed increases and engine speed doesn't once it gets to a certain point. (unless booting it that is!)

Apart from the outgoing MX5 what else uses that auto gearbox?
As the new MK4 does not have an Auto option - this doesn't mean that this box will dry up shortly I wonder?
Mazda on their new lines have had a radical homologation of parts across their new range of vehicles.

I can see where people are coming from when they consider an automatic box not to be in keeping with a sports car,
Thing is, most sports cars and supercars are now essentially automatic - paddle shifts etc.
