What I'd like to know before we digress too far is what the range is like?
Kin, iirc, the range was something like 300 miles when driven sedately; is this correct?
I like the concept when it comes to a daily commute but the limitation on range, without a charge, renders it useless for those who have to do long distances on a regular basis. I appreciate the Tesla are creating 'fast charge points' in certain locations but (a) you are limited to the charge network and (b) I don't want to wait around whilst my car is charging.
Hybrid makes more sense to me but even those figures are a load of waffle. BMW quote something stupid (over 100 mpg) for the i8 but when I had one on a 24-hour test drive, I struggled to get over 30 mpg when driven economically and the pure electric range was circa 15-miles. Coupled with the impractical doors and it was a damp squib.

Hi Simon, I am really not the best person to ask re charging infrastructure, Shooter is probably the best person to ask as he uses his Tesla daily clocking up huge mileages. Better still, try SpeakEv , very friendly bunch, almost as friendly as Talk Morgan  If you check out the Tesla webpage, and look at their supercharger map, you'll know by end of this year, the whole of England would be covered , apart from Wales for some strange reasons? The 300 miles range is similar to those government fuel consumption figures published by car manufacturers, its possible as long as travelling at 50mph on a flat road, with no head wind!! According to a few seasoned EV'ers, the Model S would give minimum 200miles.

Blimey, I thought this was TM not Judge Rinder  Sorry, I may have been more than usually sensitive (or grumpy) but I read it as a clear implication that those of us who don't spend £6k + on a record player or £60k + on a car are somehow missing out - which is of course complete bollocks. I'm with you Tim on this one!

I'm with you Tim on this one! Ditto! Although a big V8 certainly can provide a great driving experience I also think there is something rather nice about a sprightly 4 cylinder leightweight.. And I also love straight 6's... In fact some of my cheap cars of my youth gave me some of the best experiences of all.

Frankly V8 Morgan's do sound great particularly the side exit pipes. In a tunnel it sounds like Valhala. I am saving for one but in the meantime I can enjoy other people's. I have a 4 pot and the induction noise is very good too.

If you max out on the autobahn, I guess you'll be lucky if you get 100miles out of it, but so will your V8 machine, the difference would be its free for me to top up while it cost you at least £100 a pop to fuel up! This thread should answer your question. Bear in mind that there will be more superchargers on its way, heard that Welcome Break will be installing superchargers on all its services, as the CEO has a Tesla on order. Going back to Simon's question not wishing to stop to charge, I think most people would want a break driving 200 miles, you could always plan it to stop at one of the superchargers, take your restroom break, have a coffee, answer some of the emails whilst the cars on charge, half an hour is probably all you need ?

I fit into the "norm" - 95% of my journeys could be done with easy in an EV. The problem is that the other 5% of the journeys make up 50% of my KMs per year. I'll drive to the UK at least once a year - and will clock 1100km each way. The EV journey planner suggested 5 stops (gulp) for the drive - which on a fast cruise might be 1 too many. So 4 stops at 30mins = 2 hours on the journey. With a traditional ICV we'll stop twice - for a quick toilet break and fill with fuel (say 15mins).
The EV would "cost" 90mins more for the journey - and push it into the realms of being uncomfortable. With an overnight stop (and confirmed charging on site) it would probably be OK.
I'd like to try one for such a long trip to see if it could work - as it is the only part that I struggle to get my head round.
