Sports Green is one of the few colours that really suits the traffic grime.....nice! Fully agree Jays! Henrietta needs her 4 weekly (or 1,000 mile) clean and grease. Dirty close up but still passes as ok from 50 yards. Cheers

 I bought her 2009 out of the showroom unregistered from Henry on the old site - not a spaniel in sight a quick test drive was all that was required and young Henry knew it. I was a previous 1994 Plus 8 owner but needed instant cash for my sons Professional Yacht Masters course on the Isle of Widget so Dad had to sacrifice for a year. 24,000miles of pure pleasure provided, lots of small things came unglued and fell off but nothing that stopped her going well which is all that is of concern to me infact the more bits that fell off the quicker she went as it was attrition like, that coupled with the engine freeing up a bit over time it became somewhat of a linear function. I won't mention the 3 cracked "under stress" windscreens as Brian very kindly acted as the conduit and sorted this out for me. That does look gorgeous Richard in its newness! Mind you I also like the photo of it after the journey, a Mog in its natural habitat...

Pic brings back many memories - my first 4/4 (sports Black) came out of the same showroom in April '09 reg WX09 HLC, I sold it to MMC 14 months later with 12000 not quite trouble free miles on the clock, the next owner was Matt Humphreys who took the clock round to 36000 mls in a little over 12 months. The green/yellow striped Elise in the background is a sort after Type 25 - a limited edition tribute to Jim Clark that I would be happy to have in my garage

Yes the sought after Lotus Elise Type 25 is certainly a looker although the running gear would appear unchanged other than trim bits. http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/fi...cial-pictures-/I was put off Loti for life when as a young qualified driver of 17 I was the first on scene at a serious RTA involving a Lotus Elan on the Acle straight in Norfolk. The chassis was the only recognisable clue and there was fragmented fibreglass and body parts everywhere the imagery being on total recall for life.

Having owned an Elan coupe when I was young, I often wondered just how strong the thing was, as the chassis was designed on the backbone principle and there was nothing solid in the doors at all. If I had ever been unlucky enough to have a car, or worse, a lorry drive into the side of it, the driver or passenger would have been crushed up against the centre chassis. Luckily that never happened, but I have never been tempted to have another.

It would be a mistake to assume any common design between the first Elan and the current Elise. The latter has the same glued and rivetted chassis as the Aero and in practise crashes rather well if expensively ( the chassis cannot be repaired - officially). The Evora using the same system had to undergo the usual crash testing for the US market before launch but I dont think the Elise did being designed many years ago as the car that syarted the current chassis trend now used by other small volume cars like Aston and Aero.

After the latest Prescott Hill Climb, where an Exige took a flying leap out of Pardon hairpin to land (inverted) in a farmers field 30m further on, modern Loti are built far stronger than in Chapman's day.
Had the driver been in a classic Lotus I seriously doubt he would still be with us...
