The nature of the forum is to focus on the problems with the M3W and eventually I (and I'm sure many others) hesitate to to commit to a long journey just in case.

Having just come back from a European road trip based around the superb Jungfrau-Treffen in Grindelwald it may be fun to record the good journeys this car is capable of.

So I'll kick off with 2,130 miles in 10 days with just a half split rectifier bobbin and 1/2 litre of oil being required.

Would I do it again? In a heartbeat joy

December 2012 build with just over 5700 miles and all I have had done is standard maintenance and replaced a few bobbins so far. Have a tentative appointment to get updated to mostly 2014 specs and have a couple goodies added in about a month though.

October 2013 build with 5000 miles. I have changed the fluids a few times, replaced some rubber mounts and even upgraded some. One small problem with the rectifier wire snapping.I Upgraded battery to a bigger size. Besides that, no problems at all. It has been very reliable.

18,200 miles, lot and lots of 100-150 mile jaunts.
Only stranded once due to snapped cam belt.
Lots of bobbins in early days and two silencers snapped. Chasiss cracked but didnt shear.
All the mods and until the fuel pump packed up a couple of weeks ago had done 12,000 trouble free miles.
Now thinking of the crankshaft pulley bolt mod, If i knew what the hell it was

Been my daily driver for the last 3 months, cost a few bobbins, one rectifier, upgraded rear hub, but worth every penny for the joy. Now if I can get my dealer to move a little faster---

November 2012 build M3W with about 18600 miles.

Black exhausts changed due to flaw in black coating – first service.
Rear sprocket changed at first service – instruction from factory don’t actually know why.
Seat belts replaced at first service – mudguard and shielding fitted to keep the crud out of the mechanism.
Sheared exhaust stud; replaced with cut down bolts and lockwired brass nuts till its first visit back to the factory when new studs were fitted.
Couple of bobbins changed on rectifier.
Gear change linkage shaft sheared.
Failed component at base of gear stick. Long wait for replacement.
Compensator failed – type with grease nipple installed.
Chassis failed – replaced. Some other components changed to facilitate this replacement.
Clutch failure – due to loss of over travel stop at chassis change.
Upgraded to Centa compensator.
Rectifier failed – rectifier moved to chassis mount from engine mounted location.
Rear wheel bearing failed – down to inadequate tightening of spindle allowing it to move out of alignment.
Left screen cracked – replaced.
RHS headlight locking mechanism failed, replaced with later type.
Notchy gear change; failed component at base of gear stick. Long wait for replacement.
Plastic transmission tunnel cover (under the leather trim) breaking up – replaced and beefed up with aluminium.
Aftermarket exhausts sheared ahead of silencer – back to standard pipes.
Oil drooling from air filter (but not the large belch due to “wet sumping” more like excessive oil mist in the crankcase combined with a bit of blow-by) so fitted catch tank.
Changed to steel rear sprocket and later style hub to sort out staggered sprocket arrangement.
Cracked chassis – replaced.
Clutch nigh on worn out – replaced.
Fuel tanks replaced; problem at welded seams – haven’t seen this myself, know no more.
Worn out three sets of tyres, now on my fourth and have had one flat which was probably a tube issue; the securing nut on the valve that goes inside the rim was loose when tube was taken out but don’t know cause for sure – tyre was about 90% worn anyway and had new pair sitting waiting to go on.
Apart from that no real issues.
Only one payment left to go and it’s all mine!
Have been up the west coast of Scotland a few times, all the way round Ireland, across to Holland in winter and down to Devon, also in winter. Lots of 200 and 300 mile days out in the Highlands.

Still the best toy on the road.
