It may be because the CR6ZZ is a road legal race tyre specifically made for classics and will fit cars that travel much faster than the Morgan and MMC fitted them because the superb stickiness suited the car and resemble the older crossply tyres. The whole picture of a narrow bodied car with vintage looking but superb road holding tyres ticks a lot of people's boxes, mine included drive

I fitted V rated Dunlops to my '92 plus4 because that was the rating of the original tyres I replaced. Is there an insurance question if the rating is changed.

I am not at home for the next couple of days, so cannot answer for sure, however
I believe that when I changed to HIGHER profile tyres the speed rating changed, as the same speed rating was not available.
I notified the insurance company who were happy that I notified and they noted the fact however it made no difference to the insurance charge.

As long as the speed rating is correct for the vehicle, I can see no reason why an insurance company should make a fuss.
I wonder if the insurance companies actually know that the tyres are designated for pre 1st October 1990 cars only?

Yes Jays, i noticed that on the Avon web site!

Wirewheel; thanks i would be interested in that; i have noticed a W rated Pirelli which is in the £105 bracket meant for a Porsche and a higher speed rating. Pirelli P 6000 185/70 R15 89W N2. Interesting that the insurance company were happy with your alternate.

Looks like i can order the narrow body with a bit less of a concern about the running costs smile

That's a good tip and a good alternative to the Vredestein option.

I am not sure if Avon CR6zz are legal if fitted on a car that is post 1990 as they are E rated I believe. Can someone confirm one way or other as I was interested in them for the Roadster, if I can get the correct size?

Otherwise it will be Dunlop bluespot for wet grip, or Vredesteins.

They have to be legal if I have bought a new car from Morgan with them fitted as original equipment? Surely Morgan would not sell cars with these tyres if that were the case. The litigation in an accident would be costly.

From the Avon website http://www.avonmotorsport.com/historic/historic/cr6zz

"The CR6ZZ is a range of road legal radial competition tyres suitable for classic performance cars. They are an all-weather tyre designed to be used for competition driving in disciplines such as classic road rallying, trackdays and circuit racing. "

"The Avon CR6ZZ is EXEMPT from the EU tyre labeling regulation EC1222/2009 because, The tyre is designed to be fitted only to vehicles registered for the first time before 1 October 1990"

So its exempt for the labeling. I can't believe that it will not be OK for the MOT when they look at the tyres for the EU tyre labeling; or will it be a problem if it is used on pst 1990 vehicles?

Ok no need to panic. It is just labeling for EC1222/2009 and seems to be for the point of sale, not sidewall markings.
