Hello Everyone,

What a fantastic forum - spent weeks reading lots of posts, researching as best I can, before finally taking the plunge this week.
Although I have always kept a 'fun' car, more often than not it has been either a TVR, Porsche, or on one occasion Lotus, but never a Morgan - until now.
Collected my very early built (no.0004) M3W on Tuesday evening. It is the one recently advertised on Pistonheads - the old SGT Demo.
I have only managed about 150 miles since picking it up - but already I'm smitten, what a fantastic, unique experience - my 70 mile commute has never seemed so inviting.
Anyway back to the point, there are several points I would like to address (initially).
My rectifier is mounted in the original place, on bobbins at the front - where does it go when you mount it securely elsewhere?

I have a very small oil leak that drips off the under tray - just in front of the rear wheel - any ideas on what that is likely to be?

When I look down the passenger footwell - I can see a little daylight at the bottom, down the sides of the chassis tubes, can I seal this up & what do you use?

I think the pedals are set on the furthest fixing - which is still tight for me, is it possible to move them a little further back?
Also whilst on the pedals, they are very close together - several times I have found myself pushing the brake and accelerator when I want to stop - was the pedal set changed on more recent cars, or again is this adjustable?

How do I know if I have the upgraded wishbones - what should I look for?

Is it possible to retrofit heated seats? I want to use it to commute through the winter (on dry days) I think its going to get very cold.

I have already ordered my new fuel sender and a set of cater ham exhaust bobbins

Allon White will retro fit heated seats , they rebuild the exiting seats incorporating heating elements.

Welcome! I have a Brooklands M3W so I have a specific exhaust problem that you won't be affected by. About the most serious isssue with early models (chassis) I think there are pictures in this forum of cars that are "original", and then with the solutions (bolted / welded) that MMC came up with. One of those that contributed to that particular discussion will no doubt point you to that thread.

A quick response as I'm off to work in a minute.

1. Dont worry too much about daylight as long as water does not come in as quite a lot of road grime and dust will and does, this vacuums out easily.

2. Small oil leak, check it is coming from the BB breather if it's from the input or output flanges it will need a replacement BB.

3. If your track rods are horizontal and not sloping down it has probably been sorted.

4.If pedals are at the front fixing then a steering wheel spacer is the way to go or fit a small batten of wood under the front of the seat squab to lift the front edge by about 1 inch.

5. Don't bother with heated seats get a Keiss heated motorcycle waistcoat instead, keeps your front warm as well as your back.

I thought about heated seats and even decided to do it myself but then received a birthday present ,a Keis heated jacket which is absolutely wonderful.

Welcome to the wonderful whacky world of Three Wheelers Andrew, and congratulations on your purchase and to Talk Morgan. It is a great resource and dare I say, a club in itself with many like minded people to natter to.

With regard to the wishbones, I don't think there is an easy way of identifying the replacements, I couldn't see any difference when I took my car back to Malvern to have them changed, so take it into a dealer, who should know.

As far as the pedal box is concerned, the problem, which I suspect you have discovered by now, is that the back of the clutch cylinder fouls the transmission tunnel, so you cannot use the furthest set of holes, but I understand that you can get a little more length by lifting the whole pedal box up and using a spacer of some kind under it, which then overcomes the problem, it will mean a bit of fiddling around to do this though. There is very little you can easily do to give more space between the pedals though, I had just such a moment, when braking hard when a car in front decided to turn right at the last moment, and wondered why I wasn't slowing down, anyway I worked it out in time - just. Wear as narrow shoes as you can find, preferably those dinky little racing boots, and that, with experience will stop it happening.

The factory now mounts the rectifier on the N/S side chassis rail - but it requires welding lugs onto the chassis & a new mounting plate to retrofit this to an early chassis.







Another option is to ditch the standard regulator and mount an original Harley Davidson type direct to the existing mounting plate without the rubber bobbins. It seems that the Harley unit is robust enough to survive in this location. There are several threads on this subject already so a bit of advanced searching may be in order.

you can mount the existing rectifier without bobbins, just adding some spacers instead. works fine
