What is the recommended model(s) of the more proper fuel guage sending unit that more closely represents the tank level? Manufacture and specific model# Thanks so much!
While changing the unit will give you 0% which is actually nearer the bottom of the tank this also increases the chances of running the pump dry without increasing your range. Reset the trip and know that you can do around 200 miles between fills. The risk of lowering the level in the tank by using a longer sender is that you might run the tank dry if the car is parked at an angle on a slope and the fuel runs out of the right tank (with the pump and sender) into the left tank. Just a thought
The popular replacement is the VDO 280mm unit. You have 10 U.S. gallons and probably will get about 30 mpg on average. When the stock sender reads zero at 150 miles, you can still safely find a gas station.
Hi Catalyst Thats the right 280mm sender. Its the same as the original one, but in the correct length. You can see the VDO partnumber in the picture. With the original one my M3W indicated 0% fuel level when the tank was half full (max 20 liters refueling). The new one indicates 0% about 7 liters later, but I had only one time to refuel since I swapped the sender, so this is just a rough estimation. Best regards Kurt

Just went 280 miles, took 9.2 gallons, guage at zero halfway through so Rolsmith is right on the nose ...
