Quite obvious from the pictures that what is need is something to isolate the vibrations as making things stronger just leads to cracks elsewhere.

It is a problem that Morgan have had, on and off since very early days, say 1920 or whenever full length exhausts were first fitted. My 1930 car has a slip joint in the straight section before the silencer and I understand many other owners have done this too. However, we can get away with leaks as we have no cats to get upset.

Still amazing how ignorant MMC behaves on eliminating the costruction shortcommings of the early M3W's.

An amazing post this - it must be possible to sort the exhaust problem. I would have thought Morgan would have this capability. It seems it's the wrong material and inadequately divorced from the engine vibrations.

When more three wheelers are out of warranty someone could set up a good business properly sorting these cars out if Morgan cannot.

The cars themselves are unique and I very nearly bought one but opted for the plus4 but I wasn't sure I could be resilient enough to own one.

Hats off to the 3 wheeler crowd whom persevere.

I would take a half educated guess that Morgan themselves don't have much to do with the exhaust development, other than commisioning it from a specialist exhaust fabricator. I was talking to someone in the exhaust business a while ago, who was approached and did some development work on the early standard exhausts, but didn't, as I understand it, get the contract.

This may help explain Morgans inability to sort the problems in a timely manner.

Yea, from what I can tell even from the onset, the M3W is a bitsa from part bins over numerous companies. Some of it is made in house, but mostly its simply assembled by Morgan, not "built" in the more traditional term.

So much so that if you really wanted to, you could probably build a M3W yourself if you took the time to source the same suppliers. Engine, transmission, wheels, tires, suspension, drivetrain, etc.

This would make sense with some of the issues and failed solutions as they work with many outside sources to remedy the problems.

I do wonder if anyone has contact with the original designer of the modern M3W to hear how his ACE cyclecars are fairing over the longterm.

The M3W may have been inspired by the Liberty Ace but in the end little or nothing of that design remains.

The Liberty Ace, in turn, was more inspired by the Triking than the original Morgan three wheeler, which, in its turn was the inspiration for the Triking.

It is all one big circle

I think the 'bitsa' approach is probably the only way to make a car like the M3W these days, especially with Morgan's budgets for R&D. Let's face it, outsourcing is hardly unusual!
But, really, there's no excuse for hopeless engineering, almost total lack of testing, and an 'eyes closed - ears closed - and fingers crossed' mentality that they don't seem to be able to overcome.
I'm sorry for the boys and girls back at Malvern because this incompetence must really damage morale and hits the books at a time when Morgan should be doing really well.
