I dropped my plus 8 off at the weekend for her annual service, MOT and one or two upgrade (shocks / brakes etc) and I therefore had the opportunity to have a wonder around and snap a photo or two... RPM has expanded in the last year taking (I think) the warehouse next door to the 1st workshop... It felt like a bit of a barnfind experience with all the nice Moggie's around... Anyway, pics below :- The showroom.... Workshop 1 - then I saw her... An AeroMax in for her 1st service... She looked awesome. PS - RPM have another AeroMax in soon. I'm not sure if she is sold or not... Workshop 2 That's my Ivory Plus 8 on the left. The Red Plus 8 is RPM's classic series racer (taking it to the 911's and beating them!). Number 73 is another race car, totally rebuilt and maintained by RPM for racing.

Love the pics, I was tempted by grey 4/4 Sport whe I was looking a couple of months back and RPM had one for immediate delivery on their website, but I wimped out on the colour and settled for black, plus distance from dealer was another downer.

Funny thing about the grey 4/4's is that they look better in the metal, as opposed to photographs.
With regard to Number 72, I can't remember the story behind the race cars. Russell races that one one and a client races 73. I'e asked RPM to login in here and fill us all in. - Should be interesting.

they had a grey 4/4 'hire' car at MMC when I test drove an ivory sport, I was quite keen on the colour -perhaps Morgan were inspired by Ian Flemmings Casino Royale -Bond drove a battleship grey pre-war Bentley, I was a little put off though when someone whispered "kubelwagon", and one wag said the colour was "primer-over-base" but as usual the real reason for choosing one colour over another was going with what my wife liked :-)

At last, my first posting on Talk Morgan!
The story behind the race cars:
My wife and I stayed with our friends Mandy and Richard Plant whilst down at Prescott for the 4/4 Sport launch last September. After dinner, with brandy in hand, Richard and I wondered out to his garage to admire his magnificant Morgan race cars ...half an hour later I owned one! Not really sure how that happened and it took a little time to explain to my better half!
Anyway, that is now "72" which Richard raced in the Morgan Challange. He had it rebuilt in '04 after a little "off" at Mallory with a 4.6 JE engine. To comply with the Classic Series in Scotland I had to get a new 3.9 carb engine from Mr. Eales and so far so good...3 wins from 4 races! It's also complies with class B in the Morgan Challange but is a little down on power without injection...I'll be racing it at the Mallory Morgan meeting in July so we'll see?!
Before Richard owned it, Andrew Jackson campaigned it for years. I have stacks of history and pictures with the car but I have no idea how successful the car was...maybe someone can fill in that detail!
The other car, "73", was the more famous "Silver Lady" owned by Sharlie Goddard and previously Chris Phillips. In Chris's hands I believe it won the Morgan Challange and its class several times. It's been a race car for years and I bought it after Sharlie bumped it at Brands.
It's not so silver now(!!) as its new owner wanted it black....and it looks stunning! We (RPM) were going to rebuild it as a Morgan Challange class C car but a chap I'd never met came in to our dealership to buy my son's kart, fell in love with 72 and the whole idea of racing a Morgan, bought it immediately and asked us to build to the same spec as mine! Almost everything is new on the car and it was on track for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Andy Smith, its new owner, was battling for 3rd place in his first ever race having only sat in it the day before...hugely impressive...worryingly so!!
Both cars will be at Mallory so make yourselves known if you come along.

Welcome to TM and thanks for the potted history It's nice to see yet another example of the feelings these cars generate so easily
