Hi mudplugger

If you take a look at Raceline, you can get a brand new, crated 2.0 blacktop zetec complete for £750 in standard tune, which needs an ECU but has everything else, or in any state of tune you desire for quite a lot more £££! Manifold would be extra.

I believe that Yuri is suggesting the most economical route is to consider buying one from a professional breaker. As these engines were used in a myriad of Fords, it is a worthy option.

A site such as this one can be a good starting point

Ah... you want to stay in class 3 not 7!!

Right... 1800cc it is then. Zetec E

Not sure about 1800 Duratec? you'd need to do quite a lot of modification to get that in I think. Exhaust is opposite side for instance.

Zetec E would be a silver top, early ST170 engine would be the easiest swap ready to go and tuned for 170 bhp, saw an advert that took one of these engines to 400bhp so loads of scope without the need for major engineering - unless someone knows better

Indeed it is- ST170 a great engine Richard but as you know 1998 cc. I can't believe you will get 400 bhp from a Zetec 2l without turbo charging or supercharging.
St170 engines are going for about £700 on e-bay. Good choice and with an Omex ecu about 150 bhp at the rear wheels!
