No doubt that the bitsa approach is the only way for Morgan to reasonably make it work these days. Morgan has been outsourcing engines since their creation, so that aspect alone isnt exactly new.

Fundamentally it is a kit that the factory is putting together. Honestly I think that is part of the issue as there is no way for one of the assemblers to go back into the department where the part is being made and discuss issues which may arise. Doubly so is the fact that if there are issues, Morgan is then dealing with an outside source to fix the problem in a timely manner. Such solutions may not happen fast enough for Morgans liking and then Morgan looks like a company selling sloppy cars to chumps continuing to line up.

Yes - scandalous. Pleased to say that Morgan would never dream of pulling a stunt like that. I wonder:

a) what VW does differently in Europe / UK and the rest of the world

b) how many other firms are doing the same sort of thing

It does amaze me how emissions have come down while fuel consumption has come down a lot less... conclusions??

I bet there's enormous pressure inside the big firms BMW, Audi, VW, etc. to keep up with the others when new emissions figures are claimed and bet this is the beginning of a bigger scandal!!

From my spy in the motor industry: He is claiming that it affects pretty much every european diesel car with urea injection, sold in the USA, where they have much lower NO limits than Europe. If they did not have cheat devices, they would probably need to fill up with Urea (VW = Adblue) nearly every time they filled up with fuel. The full price for a refill bottle is around $30 for 10L. This would make diesels more expensive to run than petrol, which would equal zero sales.

As the S&S motor meets California emission control standards, we can don our Clarks plastic sandals and eat our lentil sandwiches with clean consciences.

That's disappointing if true. I'm about to get new exhausts and my dealer told me they were upgraded.

I guess I was lucky I got almost 6k miles out of my old exhausts before they (both) broke.

By the way my Brooklands is #42.

My advice is do what I did......Sell it, am no longer a Morgan owner but have paid for in depreciation the right to post I feel. Was full of joy when I bought my Brooklands and also full of joy when I sold it, I went through 2 sets of exhausts and numerous other problems, The car is a pile of underdeveloped crap end of, you may persevere but at the end you will be full of disappointment and resentment as I was. I have bought an Ariel Atom instead which is fully developed and reliable, Morgan are relying on brand loyalty and peoples seemingly blind inability to see beyond the fact that the car is interesting to drive but is ultimately unreliable, oh and it will also deteriorate and depreciate very quickly, sell it before it's too late!!!
