Congratulations to Australia, who bear no resemblance to the team England beat last November, a real credit to new coach Michael Cheika. One of his acts from which England can really learn something was his move to change their "no players to be selected who are playing overseas" rule to allow the inclusion of a couple of key players, including late try scorer Matt Gitteau. England too need to be more pragmatic about this; we deliberately denied ourselves the services of two of our most outstanding players (both of whom have been named ERC European player of the year, Steffon Armitage and Nick Abendanon) on the grounds that they play in France.

May I also refer you guys to my remarks in my opening post; I still fancy Ireland.

well done to Australia, they deserved the win, have to agree with Giles but not sure about Ireland though.

Australia were always going to be the team to beat in Group A: the disaster for England was losing to a better motivated and more passionate Wales.

Frustrated at not being able to get any tickets for the games at Sandy Park though. So if anyone has any tickets spare for either Namibia v Georgia on Wednesday or Italy v Romania on Sunday then please send a PM.

As part of my support for Australia to get Wales through we celebrated at lunch with kangaroo steaks....
eat
Oz looked very impressive, their scrum has improved no end.
The flair they have is good too.
The back row were the ones who won the game though.....on the back of the scrum penalties.
Wales have a huge step up to win.
A feature of this WCup has been the improvement in the so-called lesser sides.
The cash from it has been spent well in my mind...
The only downer so far is the silly make-up of GroupA...too many top 10 teams causing the " group of death" effect whilst other groups seem under powered.
They need to look at the seeding to even it out.
Both England and Fiji are potentially losers to this issue.

Giles; that's cruel.

A Welsh friend of mine came up with the following.

A Welshman finds a discarded England shirt in a polythene bag outside Twickenham. . ."What a waste! That bag's worth 5p"

ooo

We had a family barbecue a month ago in celebration of the upcoming Rugby, my sons girlfriend is South African and if I tell you her surname is Van Rensburg you will get a feel for the event.

So I decided we'd have Kangaroo steaks, Ostrich and Crocodile steaks with Boerewors sausages to keep things on an even keel.
Topped off with toasted marshmallows between double chocolate digestive bicuits.
I won't mention the tipples.

My choice was the Kangaroo as I just had a feeling about the team and the way they dig in, just like Wales on the back foot do.
I am looking forward to a clean fight on Saturday and the best team winning.

I've ordered my Kangaroo steaks from :- https://alternativemeats.co.uk/exotic-meats/kangaroo

all ready for the match and a few Adnams Broadsides at hand for the boys to enjoy, whilst the girls have their Pimms in another room.

It is cruel Simon; but then it's a cruel world.

Maybe you should ask your Welsh friend if he knows why Welsh lasses prefer English lovers.

(Answer; Because they can stay on top for 70 minutes and still come second)

My son is repaying me for all the times I've taken him to the Millennium Stadium by treating me to Wales vs Oz at Twickers on Saturday. Should be a very big game, as winning could give a less difficult quarter final and semi. Citing of Hooper and Oz injuries may give Wales a chance, but I just hope it's a good game.
Although a passionate Welsh supporter all my life, I was very sorry to see England go out. Such a shame. frown
