Great performance by Ireland today. Not a bad result for France either, as this puts them up against the All Blacks in the 1/4 finals rather than Argentina (France have been something of a bogey team to NZ, whereas they seem incapable of beating Argentina).

Congratulations to New Zealand on a superb performance in the final. I really felt for Australia - they've played a great world cup & got through an incredibly tough series of matches, but on the night, the All Blacks were just too good. A fitting world cup swan song for Dan Carter and Ritchie McCaw. notworthy

The Kiwis were just too strong - a lesson in speed of passing too, they seems to have a 6th sense of where their receivers are going to be. Magnificent game.

Their skill at the breakdown is a lesson for the Northern Hemisphere teams.

And the sheer speed of play!

It certainly sorts out one thing for England's post mortem of the tournament. We wouldn't have beaten that All Blacks team.

I seem to remember a few months ago all the pundits plotting England's path to the final, the only question being whether or not they could beat the All Blacks - such innocent optimism! Ho hum.

Great world cup though. Biggest bonus for me was the progress that the tier two nations have made - you almost expect it of the South Sea islanders but to see teams such as Japan, Georgia, USA and Romania playing expansive rugby without fear was great for the future of world rugby. And a wake up call to the old guard in the northern hemisphere. Oh, and look what Argentina have done - not the finished article but well on the way and great to watch.

So finally, well done New Zealand - deserved winners!
