Hello fellow campers, Recently had the chassis brace fitted to my 2012 M3W with 4400 miles on it now... No chassis cracks reported and the kit was fitted at the service. Car seems to have more vibration following the service but obviously not necessarily linked to the chassis brace addition. Driver side wing mirror has mysteriously failed as well due to a shear effect near the ball joint. I think this was done at the service but forgot to take photos of every working part of the car immediately beforehand! Has anyone else noticed anything similar? It's always hard to be sure with such things but there really does seem to be more vibration through seat, steering, chassis frame, everywhere really...
Gradually losing the love I'm terribly sorry to admit...

Sorry to hear your having issues. Does the vibration appear to be engine speed related or road speed related. If its suddenly much worse have they loosened an engine mount and not tightened it back properly. The new compensator does take a bit of breaking in. I found that it was not happy below 3,000 RPM for the first 5-6,000 miles, but now at 10,00 0 its really sweet and will happily chug along at 2,000 so long as I don't try to accelerate hard at that its fine!

I've not noticed any more vibration after the brace was fitted.
Mine is now much smoother after having new tyres fitted and balanced so could that be part of the problem?

My car vibrates more now after the Centa upgrade, but this might be simply that the rubber setup allows more vibe through than the metal-on-metal version. Either way, the improvement in drive-ability and lack of rattle more than compensates.

I found the rubber compensator did indeed bed in and allow the engine to be happy at lower revs after around 1500 miles, i had assumed ut was the engine breaking in but could well have been the rubber in the compensator.
I would check the tyre pressures, its not unheard of for gargae air lines to be out of calibration and that would give the symphoms describedmif the tyes were too hard.

My car also had a steering vibration after the Centa upgrade. It slowly got worse to the point that I wasn't enjoying driving the car and I had convinced myself that the Centa coupling was about to self destruct. Turned out to be nothing worse than a slight missfire due to the spark plug terminal caps (the aluminium bit screwed to the top of the spark plug) being loose. Interestingly, it didn't feel like a missfire - more like the steering rack was directly mounted to the engine! Speaking to Mark Baldwin at the factory he said that this is a common fault.
Spark plug caps are now on my regular pre-flight inspection checklist...

yes spark plug cap seperation is something that happens to me all the time. sometimes multiple times on a single journey. It is bloudy loud when it happens because the fuel detonates in the exhaust. The engine can only just keep going when only one cylinder is firing.
It is always the best thing to check when a car breaks down.

the wing mirror issue is probably becuase someone else adjusted the wing mirror and didn't tighten it sufficiently. just saying...
depending upon your exhuasts and the frequency range of their noise: You will notice the centa reverting to a loose coupling when the engine goes back to idle or cluch down very clearly. THis is especially true if you have the roller rocker kit as it makes the engine alot more peaceful. (The g56 exhausts have a deeper sound and timbre than others and allow a different set of other vehicle sounds to be heard)
On my car i can quite clearly distinguish the compensator 'rumble' when the engine speed reverts back down such as when i come to traffic lights and depress the clutch.

I'm on my original 2012 compensator (whey hey!!) so it's not that, but will check the other things. I was wondering of the slightly stiffer chassis simply transmits more vibration. It's not one of those 'oh my god it's completely different' but does just seem to transmit more through the pedals and seat of the pants than I remembered before. Oh well! And thanks, y'all!
