I had an MGTA for many years and to be honest the build quality was poor. It was a cheaply built sports car with lots of Morris bits including the mpjg engine. The metal on the block and casings was of extremely poor quality. Once Cecil Kimber was booted out it became a parts bin car and not built as well as the j2 pa/pb etc.
The Morgan is better built by far - stainless bulkhead, galvanised chassis, alloy body, modern mechanicals and decent brakes.
They are not comparable in any way.
I Like the combination of old and new and I'm not convinced on the need to change the rear suspension to the ARP set up as it changes that mix of old andnew.
I was seriously considering a T type again before I bought the Morgan and I'm glad I made it a Morgan.

So what you're really saying is that if you took a TD, and did all the things to it that Morgan have done over the last 60 years or so to improve their cars, you'd end up with something that could be as good as a current trad Morgan: which, were it not for the fundamental ergonomic problems of the cockpit, I might be convinced of. But there would be an awful lot to do - TD's didn't even have a fuel gauge.

There is of course no doubt that the standard Morgan as delivered from the factory is capable of being further improved. This has always been the case, Peter Morgan was quoted on more than one occasion as believing that the car offered a basis for the owner to work on to meet their needs, and it's an activity that I've been engaged in with my car for the last 15 years.

The thing is, if one wants a perfect sports car, all one has to do is simply go out and buy a Porsche - and the very reason many Morgan buyers reject this route is that the result is more than somewhat anodyne. Better to buy something with acknowledged imperfections and fix those imperfections which one finds truly bothersome.

In my humble experience, Morgan will use the cheapest parts that they can get away with in many areas of the car. Although in other areas great attention and quality shine through.

This isn't a criticism, but reflects the need to minimise costs when R&D has to be shared between relatively few vehicles.
