Just to add that the Vehicle Registration Tax here in Ireland on an Aero Chassis car is 35% of what the revenue decide the market value of the car is --- so about €40,000 - makes such a car a lottery win purchase!!!!!!!!!
Would "almost" make me want to emigrate - but then I realise we are still in the rugby World Cup!!!!!!!!!! At least till to-day anyway!! That's just the environmental tax Robbie, VAT is additional and at 19 or 20% whatever the rate is in Austria. Serious lucre if you want a Plus 8... On our way back to Blighty now, 480 odd miles today hood down for most of the journey, but then hood up when rain threatened.  As Kerry says we are now honorary Austrians and we made an involuntary contribution to the State as we were caught speeding, that is me (€35.00), Paul (€50.00) and the Copper could not get his hair-drier sorted in time to catch Steve - who he reckoned was the fastest and was a lucky man to have got off Scot-free.  Apart from this we had a trouble free run and after a nice Thai meal tonight ready for the trip home tomorrow.

Is that where Heartbeat was filmed? It is Richard - never seen it though. Cannot say I've never seen it but never watched it. Mum used to be a big fan and we went there once (to the pub for lunch) when we stayed in Staithes (if I recall correctly).

Brian, the vrt is on top of the 21% VAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet that's the other way around - so that there is 21% VAT to pay on the VRT (well, it is an "Added value") VRT is calculated last, on the gross value including VAT. For a 'specialist' car it can be an arbitrary amount not based on percentage, usually much higher than the rates applied to regular cars.
Looking for another Morgan!

Gulf44 is right - they take the base price(which for a Morgan they tried to take an arbitrary price in my case) then add VAT THEN they add the VRT which they base on CO2 emissions -- a plus4 is 28% - a roadster or Aero is 35%!!!!!!
You can see why I had a long fight over the value of my second-hand car for which I had an invoice from the dealer!!!!! I only reached agreement after threatening legal action!!!

If you have a car in the Republic you must be able to show that you are a tourist or have it re-registered. If they decide you are not a tourist and have not taken steps to re-register it, they can confiscate the vehicle.
Not a sensible risk!!
