Hi all, I am the proud if frustrated owner of a 4/4. It is 3 yrs old and obviously out of warranty. For context I am a relatively young , female morgan owner ( no not soliciting for compliments more wondering if this affect show morgan have responded to me).
I have had several problems with morgan servicing ( my car goes to morgan itself not a dealer) with them trying to charge me for repairs to faults they themselves inflicted during routine maintenance etc...anyway latest catastrophe ..my handbrake cable has snapped.
Morgan say this is a not abnormal for a 3 year old car....i don't think it is . I have had other makes of car and never ever had a handbrake cable snap.
Morgan wont give any good will on replacing it.
Does this happen often ??? Is three years a reasonable amount of time for handbrake to snap ?

Thanks for advice...though I love my morgan and cars in general i do not have any mechanical or tech knowledge

Welcome to the forum. I have had a Morgan for 16 years & never had a handbrake cable break.

I have heard of handbrake cables snapping on Morgans, usually through lack of use/maintenance but never at 3 years old.

I would have an expectation that they would come to the party over it.. yes some firmness looks to be required!

Good luck, and welcome too..

And a welcome from me too , an ex Malvern resident. I can understand why you get you car serviced at the factory, but after these sort of incidents maybe try Mike Duncan at Hartlebury for a change.

I have owned Morgans (3 +4s, and one +8) since 1968 and I have never had a handbrake cable let go. I do keep them quite well lubricated so they don't have any excess friction.

If the nipple is soldered on properly it should last forever, and will only fail under real abuse rather than normal use.

I assume that you haven't been doing too many handbrake turns up and down Church Street ;-)

Three years is far too short a time for this. What happens is that the outer cable cover cracks and lets water in. Rust then sets in around the metal outer & inner and chafes away at the inner until the individual cables give way. My 2012 has cracked outer covers and I'm doing what I can to keep the water out.

thankyou so much for all the replies..my morgan is kept outside ( garage full of family paraphernalia) but is regularly serviced etc.
Morgan have tried before to tell me that corrosion to my wing mirrors at 6 months of age was my fault for leaving it outside ! I advised them that no where in my warranty or any other information to owners does it state these cars need to be garaged or expect bits to fail.
Thanks for tip about Mike Duncan ...i am keen to go elsewhere for servicing etc...morgan prohibitively expensive

oh and thank you for welcomes ..really appreciate the support guys !

Welcome redjellybean,

There were a lot of handbrake failures due to a fault in manufacture the outer cracked and allowed moisture in which set up the rusting process.
My 2009 Sport went at the 3 year mark (18,000mls) just outside of warranty and it was a £300 bill at Berrybrook for me as the interior has to come out is the story.
The earlier models are very straight forward and replaceable from underneath.

Good luck.
