Can anyone help...

I am sure that the radiator fan isn't kicking in. Went for a run today and obviously it is hot and surprisingly the fan did not kick in (130C). I am sure it has in the past and surprised me because I did not think that it actually needed it at that time.

But I have checked the fan by supplying direct power. Checked the fuse and can only think that it is now the relay..but not sure where it is. I know there are three in the bulkhead behind the dash, and three in the Fuse Box on the engine side of the bulkhead...I took these photos a while ago when I had the dash out with the idea that someone might be able to identify them for all of us...

It would be great if there was some sort of Manual to get through these minefields of fuses and relays!

My fan is on and off regularly in this weather or on any run where the engine is fully warm and running at speed for more than a few minutes. Same engine and electrics as yours. No idea where the relay is though!

Now my problem is the temp gauge, which reads high (off the scale) though the engine isn't overheating. This only happened after the dash was out recently, so I'll have to delve behind...

Keith,

I think it's one of those behind the dash (would be in the more difficult place!). I seem to remember one (or more) Mogtalk threads (+8 related) to 'where is the fan relay'.

Cheers,

Have you tried ringing the factory? When I had a problem with the cigar lighter wiring I got an instant answer from the electrician who built my car!

Spoke to Allon White they tell me the relay is the one on the right of the fuse/relay box. (Looking at bulkhead from engine bay). I have already swapped that one out so they are going to plug in the 'Magic Box' on Thursday...might be ECU or sender unit on the cylinder block (behind alternator).

Looks like they may as well do the timing belt as well now - and I was looking forward to that (bought the bits and tools already!)

NOW SOLVED!

It was the relay on the right of the fuse/relay box that I had already changed.... but of course I used a relay that I had previously swapped out when I was advised to carry spares for the Fuel Pump and Injection last year when purchasing the car.

So morale of the story......relays can even fail when there not being used!! (Probably more prone to failing then,in fact!)

Now the fan seems to run all the time (in fact it was quiter when it wasn't :-)

I'm thinking of unplugging my fan to see if it still stays at the same temp. - its nearly always on and is so noisy it spoils the whole experience! (4/4)
