My '61 +4 came to me without a front bumper blade and looks fine, but I'm wondering if it would have had one when delivered to the original owner? Any thoughts?

It may have been a option. For a while it was full front bumper with just over riders to the rear.
Try finding some publicity photos of the period. Brochures may be OK but not infallible.

Doesn't the build sheet, certificate of construction that can be purchased from the factory give that information? Original colour, trim type & colour, bumpers, bonnet strap, whatever.

Ive owned a 56 ,68, 2x 69, 70, and they all had full front bumpers and over rider rears. My 79 has full front rear bumpers.

The build record sheet for my 2012 is not accurate. So can't be relied on 100 %.

Andy
Most owners removed the bumper and the supporting irons due to the weight and the "cleaner" look. This was especially true when the car was used in competition.

Unless you live in an urban environment and need the bumper for protection of parking knocks, most folk agree it is better to dispense with it.

The bumper certainly was an option on the original 60s +4s, Dave. I remember John Mac being asked to prove this when he ran without one in various competitions by the eligibility scrutineers. I think it was prompted by the MGBs in his class thinking he was gaining an advantage.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I'm quite happy with the look as-is and the build sheet also said it should have had disk brakes, which it does not, so no help there. I think I'll leave well enough alone.- Cheers all!
