How big of a job is it to get at the rear tire, either for repair or replacement? It looks like it could be a major task, probably not something for the field. Am I correct in assuming the front tires with their spoked wheels require tubes, but what about the rear tire, is it tubeless?

Changing the back tyre is a pain but can be done reasonably quickly and relatively painlessly. When I changed the rear hub on mine I did a step by step of how I did it; the pdf is on Dropbox and contains most of what is needed - just don't change the hub if you don't need to!.
The fronts do have tubes so a puncture repair kit and/or a spare tube is a good idea.
