To Know Tonneau
tonneau, n. Etymology: < French tonneau, specific application of tonneau cask, tun: see tonnel n.
The rounded rear body of a motor-car (orig. with the door at the back); the rear part of a car with front and rear compartments or of an open car. Also, a car having a tonneau. Hence tonneau cover n. a removable, flexible cover for protecting the rear or passenger seats in an open car when they are not in use.

1) I win you lose. 2) Slacken off. Dave: Is that the tonneau or tonneau cover speaking? Actually Richard that's MrsW speaking.

'Keeps the seats dry': Is that the seats in the tonneau.....being kept dry by the tonneau cover then?
I guess that winter is well and truly here....

To save my finger from a lot of typing I will use acronyms...From now on will endeavour to be PC... I will ensure I use the tonneau cover version but use TC... I may change and call it a CC....Cockpit Cover How about renaming the hood to a HLTC...? High Level Tonneau Cover. What material are they made of? ETC, MTC? ECC or MCC? EHLTC or MHLTC? Oops! Missed out HTHLTC... Oh Dear! What is happening to me? I need to take the Mog out for a run to reset my brain...

Make no mistake, this is no idle pedantry. This is militant pedantry. Just to reinforce my credentials in this respect, I am now delighted to have been awarded Classic and Sports Car magazine's Pedant of the month* accolade. A wonderful end to the year, I shall wear the baseball cap with dignity. ~iw. *Admittedly not for pointing out a shocking case of tonneau word abuse by Simon Taylor (which they have chosen to gloss over) but instead for a misplaced comma in the same issue. My pride is nevertheless undiminished.
