To Know Tonneau

Etymology: < French tonneau, specific application of tonneau cask, tun: see tonnel n.

The rounded rear body of a motor-car (orig. with the door at the back); the rear part of a car with front and rear compartments or of an open car. Also, a car having a tonneau. 'Keeps the seats dry': Is that the seats in the tonneau.....being kept dry by the tonneau cover then?

I guess that winter is well and truly here....

To save my finger from a lot of typing I will use acronyms...From now on will endeavour to be PC...
I will ensure I use the tonneau cover version but use TC...
I may change and call it a CC....Cockpit Cover
How about renaming the hood to a HLTC...? High Level Tonneau Cover.
What material are they made of?
ETC, MTC?
ECC or MCC?
EHLTC or MHLTC?
Oops! Missed out HTHLTC...

Oh Dear!

Just to reinforce my credentials in this respect, I am now delighted to have been awarded Classic and Sports Car magazine's Pedant of the month* accolade.

A wonderful end to the year, I shall wear the baseball cap with dignity.

*Admittedly not for pointing out a shocking case of tonneau word abuse by Simon Taylor (which they have chosen to gloss over) but instead for a misplaced comma in the same issue. My pride is nevertheless undiminished.
